What is a Doula? – Doula Elevator Speech

Hey everybody,
Have you ever had that moment when somebody asks you what you do or asks you what a doula
is and you just cant find the right words to explain it quickly and easily then you
probably want to work on your elevator speech. So if you don’t know what an elevator speech
is, that is how you can sum something up in about one minute. So about the time it takes
to go down an elevator. My doula elevator speech goes a little bit like this:
A doula is kind of like a personal trainer for birth. I help families work towards their
goals for their birth. So what that means is I meat with couples about two times before
their birth to really find out what their specific goals and their needs are. Then during
labor, I am there to help with physical support, emotional support and informational support
and I am there continuously. I don’t have a shift change like nurses or doctors or midwives.
I’m there from pretty much when they’re ready, in labor and all the way through the
birth of the baby and a few hours after. I don’t preform any medical procedures; I
am just there for support. I work with couples no matter what birth they are planning, whether
it’s a natural birth, epidural or C-section. I’m really there to help couples meet their
goals for birth. So that’s my elevator speech. What do you
think? Have you made one yet? I would love to see it, it would also be a great thing
that you could put on your “about” page, on your website. Just some ideas. Now if this
video has been helpful to you or entertaining, please give us a thumbs up or share it with
a friend or, um, link to it in facebook. We love getting out the word and helping out
doulas. More information about videos just like this are in the description so make sure
