Two Men, One Baby (Full Episode) | Paternity Court

You may be seated. Hello, Your Honor. Hello. This is the case of
Allen v. Lavant/Mitchell.
Thank you, Jerome.
Good day, everyone. AUDIENCE: Good day. Ms. Allen, you are
in court today claiming the defendant,
Mr. Lavant, is denying your
six-month-old daughter, Layla. Only because he’s desperate
to try to keep your affair with him
a secret. You’re here to expose
that secret and prove paternity.
Is that correct? Yes, Your Honor. Mr. Lavant, you and your girlfriend say,
you know you are not
the biological father of the child in question and will prove your claim
today in court.
Is that correct? Yes, Your Honor. Ms. Allen, so what
upsets you most about the situation today? He’s… He’s denying
our child and he needs to step up
to be a man. Why do you think
he’s denying the baby? ‘Cause of his girlfriend,
of course. His girlfriend. Telling him lies. JUDGE LAKE: The girlfriend
tells him lies? Yes, Your Honor. JUDGE LAKE: Like what? LANIER: No, I don’t. Telling him that the baby
don’t look like him. That baby too light. (AUDIENCE GROANING) ALLEN: My baby do
not look too light. He don’t wanna break up
his happy home
with his girlfriend. JUDGE LAKE: You believe this
is all about the girlfriend? Yes. Mr. Lavant, are you
denying this
child because you’re trying to keep
your relationship with
your girlfriend? No. JUDGE LAKE: No? So you have a family together?
You and your girlfriend? Yes. So there’s a lot
at stake here. JUDGE LAKE:You have children?LANIER:Yes, we do.JUDGE LAKE:How many?LAVANT AND LANIER:Three.JUDGE LAKE:You have
three children?
LAVANT:Yes.How did you end up getting
into a sexual relationship
with Ms. Allen? At the time, we was going
through something. And we split up,
for just the one night. (WOMAN GASPS) You split up for one night? LAVANT: We just split up. ALLEN: It was not one night,
Your Honor. We was going
through some stuff and… ALLEN: No, it wasn’t. We had a break for a minute. (ALLEN AND LANIER ARGUING) LANIER: Yes, it was
a one-night stand. ALLEN: No, it wasn’t. Yes, it was. You just mad ’cause I got
my baby, so be quiet. You wasn’t there. JUDGE LAKE: So wait a minute. You wasn’t there. You tried to break up a happy
home because you knew we had three kids together
for the longest. ALLEN: Whatever. You been commenting on my
Facebook profile and all that. No, I was there because I was
telling you to keep him
away from me. No, you been stalking… JUDGE LAKE: Okay, let’s
get some… Let’s get some
order ’cause I wanna
understand this story. Ms. Allen, I need to know
did you know Mr. Lavant had a girlfriend
and three children… No. …when you were
sleeping with him? Your Honor. No. LANIER: Yes, you did. No, I didn’t. JUDGE LAKE: Was it just
a one-night stand? No, it wasn’t. You commented on
my first-born child! We was together like I said, we was together 2010. LANIER: Y’all never
was together. Yes, we was. Over the phone? First, I wasn’t talking
to you. Over the phone, child. Really? So, wait a minute, I wanna
understand the nature
of this relationship. ALLEN: It was a
long-distance relationship. They only talked
over the phone. It was a
long-distance relationship. So it was a long-distance
relationship. You lived in one
state, he lived in another? ALLEN: Yes. Okay, and so how would you all or when would you all
see one another? ALLEN: I saw him 2015,
Your Honor. But we was dating 2010. Y’all never was dating. So, it was a
long-distance relationship. LANIER: That’s not what
he told me. And I met him through
a mutual friend. So you’ve known him
since 2010. ALLEN: Yes, Your Honor. But then, you’re saying
all of… You all were
back and forth in a relationship
for five years? We were off and on. Yes. JUDGE LAKE: Sleeping together? No. We was off and on
type of relationship. Never. Y’all never was. JUDGE LAKE: Mr. Lavant? Were you talking to Ms. Allen
while you were in this relationship
with your girlfriend? No, I was not. JUDGE LAKE: You met her
in 2010? LAVANT: I met her in 2010. JUDGE LAKE: When you met her
did you tell her
you were single? ALLEN: Yes. Yes he did. Never. No. ALLEN: Yes he did, Your Honor. He never did. He was texting me
on Facebook. We was calling
each other on the phone
and the video. How often did you talk to her
on the phone? LAVANT: I talked to her,
a year. JUDGE LAKE: One solid year you
were on the phone with her? Yes. Did you know this Ms. Lanier? LANIER: I knew about it. But I told him to stop
contacting her. ALLEN: They met in 2013. We met in 2013. Those two met 2013 so how she know
about 2010? We had
our first child in 2014. You was not there when
we met. Then 2015. And I just had a child
right after you. You wasn’t there. JUDGE LAKE: One at a… One at a time. What you saying? JUDGE LAKE: Mr. Lavant you met this woman
and you were having
a phone conversation a phone relationship
for a year? Yes. And then you say that
culminated into a one-night stand. We was never in
a relationship though. We was talking as friends. ALLEN: No, we wasn’t. LANIER: That’s right. JUDGE LAKE: At some point
you had sex. How did you end up having sex? In 2015. In 2015, what happened? You were in a long-distance
phone relationship… ALLEN: I came down… I came to Atlanta in 2015
for my vocation. We meet up. After that,
we did what we did. But you contacted me in that week. Like I said, we did what
we did in 2015. And I got that proof,
let you know when we did it. You have proof?
I’d like to see it. Yes, I do, Your Honor. So this is a calendar
you brought. ALLEN: Yes.So on this calendar you claim
you were intimate with
Mr. Lavant
on the 27th of December.ALLEN:Yes.JUDGE LAKE:Your due date…ALLEN:Was, uh,
September the 26th.
…was September 26th.
So, Mr. Lavant, do you agree with
what this calendar asserts? Not at all. (AUDIENCE LAUGHING) JUDGE LAKE: You don’t
believe that? LAVANT: Not at all. Why not? LAVANT: Uh, the dates
is wrong. You text me a letter,
a doctor’s letter, saying you
was pregnant on the 6th. JUDGE LAKE: On the 6th
of January? Yes. No, it wasn’t. JUDGE LAKE: Did you bring
that letter? No. So, okay, that doesn’t negate
the fact that you may have had
sex on the 27th of December. I told him I was pregnant. LANIER: She was having sex
with other men. And Mr. Mitchell was her
current boyfriend. LANIER: She broke up
with her boyfriendjust to break up my happy home
with Mr. Lavant.
ALLEN:No, I didn’t.ALLEN: You wasn’t there. You are saying that
Ms. Allen was intimate
with another man somewhere during
this timeline. Yes. JUDGE LAKE: Can you tell
the court where? LANIER: In the park. It was not at the park. JUDGE LAKE: I mean,
at what time… (AUDIENCE LAUGHING) It was not at the park. You slept with Mr. Mitchell
in the park. ALLEN: Like I said, it was
not at the park. I did not mean a location. I meant where within
the timeline. You had sex with Mr. Mitchell a day before you have sex
with Mr. Lavant. ALLEN:You were not there.
So you was not there
so why is you here?
JUDGE LAKE: So now I gotta
ask you this, Ms. Allen, do you admit that
you were also intimate
with Mr. Mitchell during this window? Yes, Your Honor.
Yes, Your Honor. JUDGE LAKE: You were? Ms. Allen? Mr. Lavant does not agree
with your testimony
or your calendar. Why are you so sure that Mr. Lavant
is your child’s
biological father when you admittedly
slept with Mr. Mitchell
as well during the window? Mr. Mitchell and I
did not finish what we did.
Jerome and I finished
the intercourse. Ms. Lanier? Yes, Your Honor? How did you find out
your boyfriend may have
gotten another woman pregnant? He actually told me
February 3rd. Yeah, two months after. When she was
three months pregnant. I was two months. JUDGE LAKE: What did he say? He admitted it to me… I was two months. …after me and her had spoke
over the phone February 3rd. JUDGE LAKE: How did you speak
to her over the phone? She called me. JUDGE LAKE: And said what? LANIER: I am three
months pregnant… Two. Wait a minute, how did you
even know she existed? She contacted me through
social media on Facebook since 2014
when our first child was born. JUDGE LAKE: Oh, so you knew… She’s been stalking us
since day one. We been together
for five years. ALLEN: That’s not five years.
Y’all been together for three.
Thank you. LANIER: We’ve been together
for five. The dates do not add up… ALLEN: The dates do add up. …to the conception
of her child, at all. JUDGE LAKE: And you are still
together right now? Yes, we are. He actually just delivered
our last child in February. JUDGE LAKE: You just had
a child in February? BOTH: Yes. If this child, Ms. Allen’s
child, turns out to be your boyfriend’s
biological child is this relationship going
to withstand… LANIER: No, it’s not. …this development? (AUDIENCE GROANING) No, it’s not. So, you’re saying
if this ends up being your boyfriend’s
biological child
the relationship is over? Yes. Ms. Allen, has Mr. Lavant
ever said, “You know, I am
this child’s father.” Did he admit it to you?
He did. Yes. Yes he did. Through a text message. JUDGE LAKE: And why are
you so upset now? Because he’s denying my child.
He needs to step up
to be her daddy. I grew up with no daddy,
so I know how that feels. So I want my daughter
to have her daddy with her. It’s a hard life though. It just… It hurts me a lot. It really does. You just wanna break up
a happy home. No, I didn’t. So be quiet. You been trying to break us up since day one. ALLEN: No, I wasn’t. Your man decided to cheat
on you with me. Your man decides to call
me on my phone. Wow. No, you text me. He has called me and said,
“You wanna meet up?” JUDGE LAKE: He calls you. Yeah, in January. LAVANT: That’s a lie.
That is a lie. JUDGE LAKE: Mr. Lavant,
have you ever accepted that Layla is your child? LAVANT: No. You have never accepted
she’s your child? No. So you have no idea why
Ms. Allen would say this? No. LANIER: She always sent
pictures of the fake… JUDGE LAKE: Ms. Allen, you say
yes, he did say that? Yes. JUDGE LAKE: Do you have
any proof of such? Yes, I do. JUDGE LAKE: Jerome, will you
please hand me the proof? (AUDIENCE APPLAUDING) This is a series
of text messages between the two of you? ALLEN: Yes. Text messages? ALLEN: Yes, Your Honor. JUDGE LAKE:So, “Happy
Valentine’s Day, Lyly.”
ALLEN:Lyly.JUDGE LAKE:Lyly.
“Daddy loves you.”
(AUDIENCE GASPING) JUDGE LAKE:“Happy Valentine’s
Day to you, Karlisha.”
Then you send a picture
of Layla. Layla, our daughter. JUDGE LAKE: And then he says,
Mr. Lavant says,
“What she doing?”And then you say,
“Looking around.”
And then he says,
“She looking for me?
Laugh out loud.”
And then you say,
“Laugh out loud, nah,
“her sis.”
And then you respond, Mr. Lavant,
“And I want my daughter.” (AUDIENCE GROANING) Those text messages are fake. ALLEN: That was not fake. I don’t know. That’s not me. (AUDIENCE LAUGHING) It was him, Your Honor. How the heck do I send
a picture to myself
and text myself? That’s his number. So you believe she fabricated
all of this? LAVANT: Yes. Okay, so what is
the motive here? Now, Ms. Lanier, you say she’s
trying to break you all up.
She’s been stalking you. But, I mean this with
all due respect, why would she be so
obsessed over you Mr. Lavant? (AUDIENCE LAUGHING) ALLEN: Exactly. JUDGE LAKE: I mean it
respectfully, I really don’t
mean it in that way. I really wanna know what? If you’re just talking to her
on the phone and nothing was
really happening and you weren’t having sex
with her, you weren’t
leading her on except a one-night stand, how does… I mean, this is
like a movie of something. One-night stand leads to her
wanting to destroy your
entire family? Correct. JUDGE LAKE: Why? ‘Cause she know I’m a good man
and I take care of my kids. No, you don’t.
You won’t take care of Layla. JUDGE LAKE: Now,
I will say this. I’m not overlooking the fact
that you have reason to doubt. I mean, she’s admitted
that she slept
with somebody else. LANIER:She been sleeping
around with plenty other men.
ALLEN:No, I didn’t.LANIER: Besides Mr. Mitchell. No, I haven’t. That’s a lie, Your Honor. She even contacted me
and told me that she was sleeping around… ALLEN: That’s lies. …throughout her whole
entire pregnancy. That’s lies. Lies, Your Honor. I think we need to hear from
this other man. Jerome, I’m
ready to hear from him. Can you please escort… (AUDIENCE APPLAUDING) …Mr. Mitchell
into the courtroom? JEROME: Yes. Gonna have you go
to the bench right
next to the judge. Mr. Mitchell, thank you
for joining us today. Thank you. JUDGE LAKE: We’re
in court today talking about the paternity
of beautiful baby Layla. I would like to know,
first and foremost, did you have a sexual
relationship with her mother,
Ms. Allen? Yes, ma’am. JUDGE LAKE: You did. Did she ever tell you that you could
be Layla’s father? No, ma’am. She didn’t? No, ma’am. And so do you believe
you are Layla’s father? No, ma’am. JUDGE LAKE: Mr. Lavant,
after you heard
Mr. Mitchell’s testimony does that change
in any way how you feel about
Ms. Allen’s assertions? No. Nah. JUDGE LAKE: It doesn’t. I mean, he’s a man
of few words but he
was pretty direct. (AUDIENCE LAUGHING) She’s just trying to
pin her baby on Mr. Lavant. ALLEN: No. ‘Cause she knows Mr. Lavant
is a good man to me, and to our kids. No, Your Honor. JUDGE LAKE: So, Ms. Lanier,
after you’ve heard this testimony
has any of it changed
how you feel about this? Do you still believe
that Ms. Allen is lying and your boyfriend is not
her child’s father? Yes, Your Honor. Do you still stand by
the fact that if he is you are done with
the relationship? Yes, I am. JUDGE LAKE: And you all have
how many children? Three. Three.I think it’s time we go
to the results.
(AUDIENCE APPLAUDING) These results were prepared
by DNA Diagnostics and
they read as follows. In the case ofAllen
v. Lavant/Mitchell
when it comes to six-month-old
Layla Allen, it has been determined
by this court, Mr. Mitchell, you are not the father. (PAPER RUSTLING) JUDGE LAKE: Mr. Lavant? I can hear a pin drop
right now in this courtroom. JUDGE LAKE: In the case of
Allen v. Lavant/Mitchell
when it comes to six-month-old
Layla Allen, it has been determined
by this court, Mr. Lavant, you are not the father. LAVANT: Oh! (AUDIENCE GASPING) LAVANT: Yes. Okay. Yes. JUDGE LAKE: Ms. Allen. He’s the only man
I slept with though. Unfortunately, Ms. Allen, given this DNA evidence that cannot be the truth. And Mr. Mitchell is not the child’s
biological father either. There must be
at least one other person. Do you know
who he is? JUDGE LAKE: You don’t. You’ve got some
thinking to do. For your baby. But I have to say to you
if you keep up with this behavior,
you’re going to be back
in this courtroom again. You don’t lay down
with men on a whim. You’re a valuable
beautiful girl. You now are
the mother to a valuable
beautiful little girl. And we’ve got to break
this cycle of behavior because we don’t want Layla
standing here one day. That’s a generational curse
we have to break. So, Ms. Allen, I have
counseling and some
resources for you. I want you to take
advantage of it. And I really want you
to think about this for Layla. Yes, Your Honor. I wish you
the very best of luck.
Court is adjourned.
