MomsEveryday: Emily Beale, RN, Childbirth Prep

– [Narrator] Helping make your
life easier, Moms Everyday – Hello everyone, as a mother of three it’s hard to really
prepare for childbirth. Regardless, education is
still key in the process. We have Emily Beale here
with the Family Center at Capital Regional Medical
Center and you’re a nurse and today we’re talking
about childbirth preparedness which I know is so key because moms are so nervous and
want to know everything and taking classes can
really help with that. – Yes, absolutely. One of the main purposes
of childbirth classes is to help to decrease any
fear or anxiety the mom has about giving birth
or the support person. You know there’s some fear
there too sometimes and that’s true whether it’s your first
baby or your fifth baby. You know it’s helpful no matter what because every experience is different. So you know, that venue,
usually it’s a non-threatening environment, that venue
allows people to be able to open up and talk about
their anxieties, talk about their fears with other
moms who are going through the same thing and allows
the childbirth instructor to have an opportunity to
maybe dispel some of the myths that they might have
heard from their family, that they learn on the
internet and give them some real facts to work with
so that they go into the experience feeling really
empowered to make decisions about the way they want to birth. – That’s huge, especially
dispelling myths. – Absolutely. – When’s a good time to take the class during those 40 weeks? – So you know that
really kind of depends on what kind of childbirth
class you’re looking for. There are classes that
range from a one day class to like a four to six week class. Any class that you have time
for is gonna benefit you so even if that is a one day
class I still say go for it. If you’re looking for that
four to six week experience I would recommend probably
about six to seven months so that you’ve got time
to learn everything there is to know about the late pregnancy discomforts and really be prepared. – Awesome, all right, thank you so much for that information. If you’d like to learn
